Evaluations – University of Vigo

May 27th 2021

Due to the situation generated by the Covid-19 (which forced to stop the project), and following the protocol elaborated by the partner countries, on 26th and 27th of May took place, in the Concello of Sanxenxo, the evaluations of the project: IN COMMON SPORTS - INTERGENERATIONAL COMPETITION AS MOTIVATION FOR SPORT AND HEALTHY LIFESTYLE OF SENIOR CITIZENS.
The evaluation was carried out following scrupulously the health protocols defined by the Consellería de Sanidad (Xunta de Galicia), and respecting the technical implementation protocols defined at the beginning of the project by the partner countries. The assessment was carried out by the HealthyFit research group of the University of Vigo led by Dr. José María Cancela Carral.
A total of 87 participants took part in the assessment, filling in a motivational questionnaire, a self-assessment scale on their current health status. Once the data collection of scales and questionnaires was completed, the healthy physical condition tests defined in the protocols were carried out, in order to have a global knowledge of the healthy physical condition of the participants, despite the stoppage and confinement generated by the Covid-19 pandemic.
In the coming months, the data collected in the different tests will be shared with all the partner countries of the project and, in turn, the elderly participants will begin to carry out the weekly sessions of the intervention plan (water and dry).
Preliminary analysis of the data collected shows a tendency to maintain physical fitness and health, despite the period of confinement. Perhaps this is due to the fact that the population is rural, and that the participants, during the confinement period, are mainly engaged in physical activity linked to household chores, gardening, agriculture, etc.
