INTERVIEW WITH JAN GAŠPARIN TRAINER OF THE PUBLIC INSTITUTE FOR SPORT NOVA GORICA FOR IN COMMON SPORT + PROJECT
Tell us briefly who you are and what you do.
My name is Jan Gašparin, I am a graduated sports trainer. I graduated from the Faculty of Sports in Ljubljana. After graduation I started working with various institutions and individuals who are involved in physical preparation of athletes, people who play sport recreationally and elderly people. I am also involved in preventive exercise to reduce the chances of injury and increase the quality of everyday life in the elderly. I am also a volleyball coach, working exclusively in women's volleyball.
I have gained and am still gaining a lot of experience by working with different institutions and individuals. As a person, I am very positive and ambitious, in my free time I like to travel, educate myself in different areas of sport performance and play sports.
I believe that with the right approaches and a structured exercise plan, guided by experts, we can improve the standard of living of both the elderly and the young.
How has your experience as project trainer been so far?
First of all, I would like to point out that I consider it a great honour that the Public Institute for Sport Nova Gorica has offered me the opportunity to participate in this project.
The experience of working on this project so far has been extremely positive and fulfilling, both on a personal and professional level.
I can use the experience and knowledge I have gained as a tool to contribute to the maximum progress of the participants, and it is a great opportunity for constant learning and upgrading.
The greatest satisfaction for me is definitely the progress I see and the gratitude of the participants.
During these months, you also had the opportunity to participate in the second international project meeting that took place in Italy. Do you think it was useful for the development of your activity? In what way?
I definitely think they were very useful. I had the opportunity to meet other sport workers involved in the project and to learn about their ways and approaches to work. The opportunity to exchange opinions, experiences, ideas and to jointly solve problems that have arisen in different groups, countries and environments are definitely a great added value to this project.
During the meetings, we had presentations with the other collaborators on the results already achieved and later we compared them with other participants from other countries. We had constructive discussions to find solutions to problems that may have arisen and actively sought new ideal on how we could improve the project even more.
In your opinion, what impact is the In Common Sports + project having on participants?
We already know that exercise has many positive effects. I would like to highlight two that I think are among the most important in this project.
First of all, I would point out that participants show a visible improvement in overcoming the exertion, which is already visible in the exercise sessions themselves, but is also evident in the testing. The participants have increased overall strength, flexibility, stability, balance and endurance. Another important positive effect on the participants is, in my opinion, socialisation. In organised exercise sessions and events, participants have the opportunity to socialise, socialize and talk, which would not otherwise be possible to the extent that it is.
It is very encouraging that the positive effects of the project, both exposed and not exposed, are also noticed by the participants and, as a result, they always give their best in the exercise sessions. At the same time, this is a huge motivation for us trainers to give them, both the whole group and each individual, the best structured and personalised training possible.
If you had to choose 3 words to describe In Common Sport + which would you choose?
If I had to choose just three words to describe the project, they would be;
- Active ageing; active ageing is essential for our population if we want to live to an enviable age with as few health problems as possible. The aim is to prevent increased muscle mass loss (sarcopenia), to work on fall prevention, to reduce the time of prolonged sedentary behaviour, to maintain good movement patterns, to learn new things and to integrate what they have learned into their daily activities such as gardening, bowling, playing with their grandchildren ect. Everyone wants toexperience new things, to be able to play with their grandchildren or even their great-grandchildren,which some of our practitioners already have.
- Integration: by this I mean, above all, integration into a »new « community for the elderly where they meet new friends, play sport and share a common interest in being active, exchange opinions and experiences and are also in groups with people who also have the same health conditions (for example osteoporosis) which is important for them in terms of knowing that they are not alone in this process.
- Fun: one of the most important things for our elderly is of course the fact that they have fun during the exercise sessions, that they enjoy the exercise sessions, socialising and above all that they start to realise that ageing is not a curse of humanity but a gift of life.
Na kratko opiši kdo si in kaj delaš
S sodelovanjem z različnimi ustanovami in posamezniki sem pridobil in še vedno pridobivam veliko izkušenj.
Največje zadovoljstvo mi definitivno prinaša opažen napredek in hvaležnost vadečih.
daljšega sedentarnega vedenje, da ohranjajo pravilni gibalne vzorci, se naučijo kaj novega in
naučeno začnejo vključevati v svoje vsakodnevne dejavnosti kot so vrtnarjenje, balinanje, igra
z vnuki ...
delijo skupni interes do aktivnega preživljanja časa, si izmenjujejo mnenja in izkušnje, prav
